Why your Google Business Profile isn't showing up

The short version

Seven causes explain almost every disappearing profile. Check verification, suspension and duplicates first: those three cover most cases.

If your profile has vanished from Maps or from the map pack, the cause is almost always one of seven things. Work through them in this order: the first three explain most disappearances, and each has a specific fix.

WHY A PROFILE DOESN'T SHOW UP1Not verifiedFinish verification. Unverified profiles never enter the map pack.2SuspendedCheck email for the suspension notice, fix the violation, file reinstatement.3Duplicate listingTwo profiles split your signals. Merge or remove the duplicate.4Wrong categoryPrimary category is the strongest ranking lever. Work top to bottom. The first three cause most disappearances.

1. It was never fully verified

An unverified profile can exist and still never enter the map pack. Open your Business Profile manager and confirm the verification badge. If verification was started but never completed, finish it. Video verification is now common and takes about ten minutes.

Visibility and ranking are different problems. Fix visibility first, then compete.

2. It is suspended

Suspensions happen for keyword-stuffed business names, a virtual office address, a mismatched category, or sudden edits to core details. Google emails the account owner when it happens, so search your inbox for the notice. Fix the underlying violation first, then file for reinstatement: appealing without fixing gets rejected.

3. There is a duplicate listing

Two profiles for one business split your reviews, your signals and your rankings. This happens after a move, a rebrand, or when someone else created a listing years ago. Find the duplicate by searching your business name and address, then request a merge or removal.

4. The primary category is wrong

Primary category is the single strongest relevance lever in local search. A plumbing company listed as "Contractor" will not rank for plumbing searches, no matter how many reviews it has. Set the primary category to your money service and add the rest as secondary.

5. You are searching from outside your radius

This one is not a problem at all: it is how local search works. Service-area businesses rank strongest near their address and fade with distance. Checking your rankings from your office tells you nothing about how you look across town.

Run a geo-grid scan instead: it maps your rank from dozens of points across your service area and shows exactly where you disappear.

6. The profile is too thin to compete

A profile with no photos, no services listed, no posts and four reviews is not suspended: it is simply losing. Fill every field, upload real job photos monthly, list every service, and start collecting reviews systematically.

7. You are checking while logged in

Your own search results are personalised. Signed into the account that owns the profile, you will see yourself ranked higher than a stranger would. Always verify in an incognito window, or better, with a geo-grid tool.

When it is fixed but still not ranking

Visibility and ranking are different problems. Once the profile is live and clean, ranking becomes a function of categories, reviews, local landing pages, citations and links: the work our local SEO services handle. The free audit includes a geo-grid of your service area so you can see exactly where you stand.
